| How to get to Cuba:
Flights to Cuba are available from throughout Europe. It
is worth shopping around as fares can vary. Cuba is the
Caribbean’s largest island at 1200km long so it is
important to get to the correct airport. Havana is the
logical choice and you really should consider spending
some time in this city at one end of your yacht charter
or the other. Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport
(HAV) is 18 km from the city itself and easily reached
by taxi. When landing at Havana it is worth getting off
the plane quickly as queues for immigration can be long.
If you are chartering a yacht on Cuba’s southern coast
from Trinidad or Cienfuegos, you have a long taxi ride
or drive (about 4 hours) from Havana. There are internal
flights with the national carrier Cubana available but
do not expect the latest in luxury air travel! You can
also fly to Varadero’s international airport (VRA) to
the east of Havana which serves this package holiday
hotspot. Santiago de Cuba (SCU) International Airport
serves the south eastern end of the island. Visas or
Tourist Cards are compulsory for all visitors to Cuba so
check with your local embassy for the latest
requirements. There is a USD25.00 airport departure tax. |
