St Martin, despite its small size is split in two halves, the French in the North and Dutch in the South. The port of Phillipsburg on the south side of the island (known as Sint Maarten) is a bustling harbour with plenty going on by day and by night for the energetic cruiser and has the added bonus of being duty free. This is a great starting point to explore the surrounding islands of St Barts, Anguilla, St Eustatius and slightly further a field, St Kitts and Nevis. With good winds and some open water passages there is exciting sailing to be had for those that seek it without being too difficult for the less experienced. This is a great destination for those looking for a change from the Virgin Islands.
