| Yacht Charter in the Balearics: The
Balearic Islands have been attracting tourists since the
1960’s due to the fantastic climate, beautiful beaches
and latterly the party atmosphere. There is, however,
much more to these islands and a yacht charter is the
perfect way to see all that they have to offer. Mallorca
is the largest of the islands and is dominated by the
Tramuntana Mountains on the north west coast. Citrus
groves lead down to charming villages nestling below
with pebble and sand beaches meeting the crystal
Mediterranean waters. Palma is the capital and main
harbour with excellent yachting facilities. 11 miles off
the coast of Mallorca lies the protected nature reserve
of Cabrera. Visiting yachts must apply for a permit from
ICONA several weeks in advance.
Menorca is the second largest of the islands, situated
25 miles from Mallorca, and has a relaxed atmosphere.
The capital, Mahon is a maze of narrow Georgian streets
with lots of character. Menorca has the most beaches of
the Balearic Islands and the coast is dotted with inlets
and harbours such as Fornells with superb seafood
restaurants.
The island of Ibiza has a reputation as a party capital
and package holiday centre and this is true of the area
around the main town of Ciudad de Ibiza or “Ibiza Town”
and San Antonio where . The island has more to offer
though and as you sail around the coast you will
discover hidden sandy coves and bays below rolling hills
and quaint villages that remain unmolested. Three miles
off Ibiza lies the tiny island of Formentera. The laid
back atmosphere of the island is in contrast to Ibiza.
Quiet beaches, relaxed bars and restaurants and
whitewashed villages are the order of the day. |
